Catch the Reading Bug this summer at the Northfield Public Library!

summer reading posterJust as kids need to practice soccer or baseball, they need to practice reading in order to maintain or improve their skills. The Northfield Public Library Summer Reading Program makes reading fun! From June 12-July 25 kids from 3–11 can participate in activities and programs that reward reading and offer opportunities for discovery. Beginning June 2 each participant can pick up a reading investigation record to keep track of what they have read (or was read to them). Participants should bring the record when they visit the library.

Investigate, read, learn and be rewarded! All library programs are free and open to all!

The Library will host special “Minnesota 150” events to celebrate our state’s 150th birthday! Weekly programs featuring live characters from the Minnesota History Center and Mill City Museum are made possible by Northfield Area Foundation, Northfield Historical Society and the City of Northfield. Meet Harriet Bishop, John Beargrease, Maud Hart Lovelace and more! Thursdays, June 12 to August 7th in the library's meeting room.

Other summer programs:

  • Teen Reading Program: The Teen Advisory Board sponsors prizes for teen readers. Students in 6th grad and up are invited to pick up a reading record anytime after June 2.
  • Library Pages: children grades 5 and up can volunteer program to prepare and assist with the summer reading program.
  • Books & Stars family entertainment will be Wednesday evenings beginning June 11 at 7 pm.
  • Booker, the Northfield Book Bus, runs all year long! Booker brings library materials to child care centers, neighborhoods, county stops and, of course, Books & Stars.
  • Story times and First Steps Early Literacy Center. Hands on fun and learning for little ones.
