The Carleton’s Players will present “in/BED/dead,” an original cast-written theatrical production, at 8 p.m. nightly on Friday and Saturday, May 8, 9, 15, and 16. The performances will be held in the Arena Theater and are free and open to the public; reservations are suggested.

Following in the tradition of a similar creative process last year that resulted in the extraordinary Carleton theatrical production “The Laundromat,” acclaimed Twin Cities playwright and artist Barbra Berlovitz returned to the College to create yet another original, not-to-be-missed production.

The writing process for “in/BED/dead” took actor participation to new levels. During rehearsals actors brainstormed and improvised around the image of a bed, creating scenes about themes from comfort to arousal to terror. They quickly produced an over-abundance of material which the group then cut, reformed, and polished into the final product.

The cast of “In/BED/dead” includes a wide variation of different talents. When auditioning, the actors were asked to prepare a monologue and to demonstrate an additional ability such as singing, dancing or juggling. The group consists of juniors Jared Evans (Cedar Hills, Utah), Bill White (Kaneohe, Hawaii), and Kristen Johnson (Lubbock, Texas); sophomores Lily Dominguez (Chicago), Stephanie Guerrero (Houston), and Jenny Schmidt (Winona, Minn.); and first-year students Aubrey Neumann (Verona, Wis.) and Chelsea Lau (Hastings, Neb.).

The Carleton College Arena Theater is located off First Street between Winona and Nevada Streets in Northfield. The theater has limited disability accessibility. For more information or disability accommodations, call the Arena Theater office at (507) 222-4531. For reservations call (507) 222-4471.
