Carleton College Symphony Band to Perform in Concert

Carleton College’s Symphony Band will perform their second concert of the academic year on Feb. 20 at 8 p.m. in the Carleton College Concert hall. Bruce Gleason will be conducting the ensemble in a variety of music of the last century including pieces by Percy Grainger, Malcolm Arnold, Edwin Franko Goldman and Michael Colgrass. This event is free and open to the public.

 

Gleason, a visiting associate professor of music, received a BA from Crown College, a BS and MA in music education from the University of Minnesota, and the PhD in music education from the University of Iowa. He has taught all levels of vocal and instrumental music and from 1989 to 1991 served with the 298th U.S. Army Band of the Berlin Brigade as a euphonium/trombone player and vocalist. He also has done research in band history and music education, which has been published in many different journals and periodicals. Currently, he is researching the tradition of horse-mounted cavalry bands. Gleason also sings baritone with the a cappella quartet, the Fairlanes. Times;mso-bidi-font-family:Times">
