The Carleton College Semaphore Repertory Dance Company, comprised of advanced dance students, will perform its annual spring concert on Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23 at 8 p.m. in the College’s Arena Theater. Featuring three professionally choreographed pieces and five student-choreographed pieces, the program is based in modern dance, with jazz and ballet influences. This event is free and open to the public.

Directed by Jane Shockley and Judith Howard, Semaphore Dance Company operates within a variety of technical and philosophical dance frameworks, emphasizing the dancer as a “tool” in art-making. In addition to continued dance training during the academic year, the group delivers an annual concert, performs in the Twin Cities, and collaborates with other dance groups in the American College Dance Festival. Students in the group include seniors Dorothy van Oppen (Seattle), Ben Page (Lincoln, Mass.), and Elizabeth Nguyen (Beavercreek, Ohio); juniors Kaitlin Forsberg (Brookfield, Iowa), Annie Rees (Columbia, Mo.), Robin Viele (Shoreview, Minn.), and Claire Brookmeyer (Baltimore); and sophomores Kiera Jaffin (Amherst, Mass.), Caroline Giese (Winchester, Mass.), and Kai Knutson (Bloomington, Minn.).

The Arena Theater is located off First and Nevada Streets in Northfield. For more information, please contact Danette DeMann at (507) 222-4976, or by email at ddemann@carleton.edu
