Carleton’s Orchestra Performs Spring Concert
Times;mso-bidi-font-family:Times">The Carleton Times">College Orchestra will present its annual spring concert on Friday, May 29 at 8 p.m. in the Carleton College Concert Hall. The performance is free and the public is invited to attend.
none;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none"> Times"> none;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none"> Times">The orchestra will be performing four pieces: Prelude from Act I of Der Meistersinger von Nürnberg by Richard Wagner (1813-1883), Oboe Concerto in A minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) (I. Rondo Pastorale: Allegro moderato, Jamie Chen, oboe), Morceau de Concert, op. 94 by Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) (Sara Rothwell, horn), and Variations on Balkan Themes, op. 60 by Amy Beach (1867-1944). none;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none"> Times;mso-bidi-font-family:Times"> none;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none"> Times;mso-bidi-font-family:Times">The concert will be conducted by Hector L. Valdivia, professor of music, music department chair, and S. Eugene Bailey Director of the Carleton Orchestra. He 13.0pt;mso-bidi-font-family:Verdana">received the BMA from the University of Wisconsin and the MMA, MM, and DMA from the Yale School of Music. His research interests include the music of Eugene Ysaye, Luisa Adolpha Le Beau and Amy Beach. Valdivia recently recorded Beach's "Variations on Balkan Themes" with the Moravian Philharmonic in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
