Calling All Cooks
The Measuring Cup, the new kitchen store opening at 320 Division St. S. (across from Goodbye Bue Monday) on April 16, promises to be a cook’s paradise. The store, owned and run by Jan and Steve Osterkamp and siblings Gina Lovestrand and Adam Osterkamp, will offer a variety of gadgets chosen for utility and design to cooks of all ambition-levels.
“We want feedback; we will talk to people to find out what they want us to carry. The Measuring Cup is for Northfield,” says Adam Osterkamp.
The store’s website, http://www.measuringcupofnorthfield.com/ will feature a blog where employees—who, Osterkamp says, “love to cook, and already have a lot of the stuff we carry”—will post recipes and other informational tidbits.
When asked about his favorite item, Osterkamp replies, “Actually it’s kind of a joke, because I say every new product we get is my favorite one.” The family obviously chooses their inventory—a mix of top-of-the line cookware from trusted brands and colorful kitchen doodads—with extreme care. Measuring Cup will sell products from Minnesota companies Epicurean and Nordicware, as well as a rainbow of dried spice blends from Golden Fig, a company based in St. Paul. Among other things, The Measuring Cup’s shelves will sport Wusthoff knives and enamelware from Le Creuset, a French brand that Osterkamp says “is virtually indestructible."
"Our rep has told us that she put one of their pots in a bonfire," he says.
