As temperatures rise slowly but surely and the last snow melts, Northfield prepares itself for Spring. Here is a preview of community events in the coming months.

April and May will be busy months for the arts. On April 8th Northfield Arts Guild opens “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs,” a moving drama by William Inge set in Oklahoma during the Great Depression. Applications are now available for the 50th anniversary annual Arts Guild Riverfront Festival (September 10-11) and will be accepted beginning May 9th. The Northfield Sidewalk Public Poetry Competition accepts submissions through April 11. The winning poems will be announced in April and stamped into Northfield sidewalk pavement to mark national poetry month.

A month of environmental sustainability kicks off with Northfield’s perennial earth day celebration on April 30th. Northfield Farmer’s market begins in May and is held Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  The Riverwalk Market Fair starts on June 4 (9 a.m - 1 p.m.).

Spring pickup for Yard Waste Collection runs April 5-May 7 at the same time as scheduled garbage collection times. The compost site between Northfield and Dundas on Armstrong road will be open April 12-Nov 13. City cleanup days are Saturday April 30 and Saturday May 14. Waste Management provides dumpsters at the City's Rodeo grounds located at Woodley Street & Highway 3, and city residents may unload debris from their households free of charge at the site.

Manitou field will be occupied on May 3, May 5, and May 6 by two college track events, the Rolex Classic and the MIAC Decathlon, making parking scarce. Last but not least,  Northfield Youth Baseball's Spring season starts April 30th and runs through June 11th. Happy Spring!
