Weekend Happenings and Events!

0508GuideSpring is in the air and May is in full swing! The Northfield Entertainment Guide is on the streets ... and as always there's lots going on. Check out the great events listed in the Northfield Entertainment Guide by clicking the image here or visiting our new website. Here are just some of the happenings going on this weekend – pick up a Guide to get all the events for entire month of May. You won't want to miss them! May 8-10

Thursday, ArtOnWater Gallery hosts its exhibition closing of three big exhibits: "2008 Rochester Art in the Sky," "The Twenty Views of Dundas," and "The 1000 Print Summer." If you haven't seen this phenomenal exhibit – be sure to stop down between 3 to 8 p.m. Also this evening, be sure to stop by Bridge Square at 6 p.m. for the Sesquicentennial Banner Presentation in celebration of Minnesota's 150th birthday! The banner has made its way through every county in the state and Northfield is the last stop on the way to St. Paul. The James Gang rides once again to present the banner! For musical enjoyment, stop by The Tavern Lounge to see Mark Mraz and The Contented Cow to catch Study Hall with Terry and Peter.

Friday, Carleton's convocation featuring Thomas Schelling begins the day at 10:50 a.m. at Skinner Memorial Chapel. Schelling – economist and distinguished professor at the University of Maryland's School of Public Policy – presents "Can We Manage the Greenhouse Problem?" Then rest up for a bit so that you can head downtown for the big Girls Nite Out event!!! This is a fun-filled evening for the ladies begins at 5 p.m. and includes a night of shopping and discounts, drawings, auction and pampering. The evening ends with the grand finale at The Grand Event Center with music by Harmonic Voodoo! Tickets are available at Digs, Sisters Ugly, Oolala, Paper Petalum, Women & Kids on Division and The Rare Pair for $10. ArtOnWater is busy this month with another art opening! See the sneak preview from 5 to 8 p.m. of paintings and drawings by Annette Lee and William Wilson titled "Medicine Dream Journeys." At 7:30 p.m., the Northfield Arts Guild Theater presents its newest production, "The Trip to Bountiful." For more theater, be sure to catch "Holiday" at the Northfield High School Auditorium. Within the confines of the posh home of a wealthy bank baron, this play explores the themes of love, success and happiness. More musical entertainment can be found at The Contented Cow with The Return of 51 with Ray and Dan and The Tavern Lounge features the lyrically focused acoustic grooves of Kevin Stanke!

Saturday, Just in time for Mother's Day – stop down at the Northfield Garden Club Plant Sale at Bridge Square from 8 to 11 a.m. From 3 to 9 p.m., catch the opening of "Medicine Dream Journeys" at ArtOnWater, featuring the paintings and drawings of Annette Lee and William Wilson. At 6:30 p.m., stop down at The Contented Cow to catch Blue Moon. At 7:30 p.m., the Northfield Arts Guild Theater presents its newest production, "The Trip to Bountiful." For more theater, be sure to catch "Holiday" at the Northfield High School Auditorium. Also, more music awaits you with Scandium beginning at 8:30 p.m. at The Contented Cow and Relativity at The Tavern Lounge.
