Virginia Anne Schrader was born June 20, 1930 in Red Wing, MN, daughter of Manton and Terra (Young) Voxland. She was raised on her parent’s farm in Holden Township near Kenyon, MN, was baptized and confirmed at the Holden Lutheran Church, and was very active with the Holden Highlights 4H club. She went to country school through 8th grade and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1948. She then attended the University of Minnesota in St. Paul and graduated in 1950.
On June 20, 1950 she was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Lawrence Schrader at the Holden Lutheran Church and they made their home on the Schrader farm west on Dundas where they began farming and raising their family. Jinny also worked outside the home first at the Northfield Hospital as an aid and then doing private duty nursing for ailing members of the community. In 1965 she began at Brockway Glass in Rosemount and in 1972 she went back to school at Faribault Vocational School in office management. She worked a short time at McQuay’s in Faribault and then to Carleton College where she worked for 28 years in the Student Counseling Center until retirement.
Jinny was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served as church organist and pianist and taught Sunday school for many years. She and Jerry were members of the Northfield Lions Club for a number of years. They also were very interested in the history of their families and took many drives in the country side in the Northfield and Kenyon areas visiting farms where their families once lived. During retirement she and Jerry enjoyed traveling in the Midwest and western states. Jinny was a loving mother to her sons and their wives and extremely caring and devoted to her grandchildren.
