Ruby Mohn, age 87 of rural Northfield, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, February 9th at the Nerstrand United Methodist Church in Nerstrand with burial at the Nerstrand Community Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday at the Church beginning at 11:00 am until the time of Services.
Ruby Mary Mohn was born June 8, 1925 in Faribault, daughter of Lawrence and Wilna (Bollenbach) Stegner. She was raised on the family farm and enjoyed helping with the animals and the field work. Ruby was baptized and confirmed at the Nerstrand United Methodist Church and attended District 58 Country School in rural Goodhue County and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1943.
On May 2, 1947 she was united in marriage to Howard Stanley Mohn at the Kenyon United Methodist Church. They made their home in Bloomington where they raised their 3 children. As her children grew Ruby began working as a secretary and bookkeeper at a number of offices in Minneapolis. Following Howard’s retirement in 1981 they moved to rural Northfield where they built a new home.
Ruby enjoyed being with her family and spending winters in their home in South Texas. She volunteered at her church, was active with the United Methodist Women, and was a long time member of the Eastern Star, Athens Chapter #82, Faribault. She was also an avid bird watcher.
Ruby Mohn is survived by her daughter Kerry Hanson and friend Jim of Northfield; grandchildren Jessica (Mike) King, Kristin Mohn, Pamm Hanson, Steven Hanson, and Kate (Russ) Franek; great grandchildren Elizabeth, Nathan, and Katherine Swanson; sister Judy Kaderlik; and niece Julia Fahey. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard; sons Steven and Douglas; and sister Ardess Stegner.
