Obert Grinde, age 88 of Northfield, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Northfield Hospital. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 4th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield with burial at the Valley Grove Cemetery of rural Nerstrand. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to Services at the Church.
Obert Clifford Grinde was born December 15, 1923 in Dennison, MN, son of Herman and Raghille (Nelson) Grinde. His first years were spent in Dennison and then moved with his family to Northfield. He graduated from Northfield High School in 1943 and then attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. He returned to Northfield to help care for his parents and worked for a number of years at the Riverside Café.
In 1967 he began working for St. Olaf College as the custodian at the new Skoglund Athletic Center and in 1975 became the Equipment Manager for all the men’s athletic teams. He retired in 1987 but continued working part time at Skoglund until 1995. He was an avid fan of all the sports at St. Olaf. Obert was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and volunteered his time in many ways. He liked driving his car and frequented many of the area restaurants for lunch and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
Obert Grinde is survived by relatives in Minnesota and Colorado and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Henry. Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church Radio Fund.
