Marian Phelps

Marian Phelps, age 93 of Northfield, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Reflections Unit of the Three Links Care Center. Funeral Services will be 4:00 pm Wednesday, August 22nd at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield with Visitation one half hour prior to Services at the Bierman Funeral Home.

Marian Louise Phelps was born February 16, 1919 in Minneapolis, daughter of John and Margit (Thvedt) McKinley. She was grew up in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota for 2 years, Minneapolis School of Business, and then the MacPhail School of Music. On April 3, 1941 she was united in marriage to Leland Moren Phelps of Northfield.

Marian worked at General Hospital in Minneapolis and was the first staff member of their Crisis Intervention Center. She was a charter member of the Minneapolis Rainbow Club, Member of the League of Women Voters, Chair of the Columbia Heights Library Board, and a member of the State Library Board. She was an avid reader, loved poetry, and was an excellent bread baker. In 1980 she moved to Northfield and made many new friends.

Marian Phelps is survived by son David (Ce Ce) Phelps of Black Hawk, SD; sister Helen (Wally) Miners of California; sister-in-law Adair Horgen of Morris, MN; several nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of friends including her adoptive family of Pete and Susan Pedersen and family of Northfield. She was preceded in death by her husband and sons Chic and Chris.

Memorials are preferred to the Friends of the Library.
