Marian Colbenson
Marian Colbenson, age 89 of Rochester, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Northfield Retirement Center in Northfield, MN. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 31st at the Chapel of the Northfield Retirement Community with visitation one hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial will take place at the Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester.
Marian Dagney Colbenson was born December 1, 1922 near Preston, MN, daughter of George and Laura (Benson) Hovland. She was raised on a farm and attended Rushford High School. On May 4, 1940 she was united in marriage to Bert Colbenson and they made their home in Rochester. Bert passed away in 1982. Marian was a longtime member of the Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester and enjoyed her hobby of decorative Norwegian Rosemaling. She was an avid Twins fan and loved jig-saw puzzles of which she had a large collection.
Marian is survived by a son Wayne (Pam) Colbenson of Heiskell, TN; daughter Lynette (Gary) Van Alstine of Northfield; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild, three brothers; Bertram Hovland of Rushford, Lloyd Hovland of Omaha, NE, Raymond Hovland of Grand Junction, CO; sister Evelyn (Hugh) Gleason of Santa Clara, CA and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bert; son David; daughter Rita Schultze; sister Doris Miltz; brothers Bernard and Earl Hovland.
Funeral arrangements are by the Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield.
