Helen Ann Conrad was born July 9, 1925 in Faribault, daughter of Herbert and Anna (Paschke) Heine. She attended Immaculate Conception through 8th grade and then Faribault High School graduating in 1943. Immediately after high school Helen worked at the County Agents office in Faribault. On the weekend Helen and her friends enjoyed traveling by train to dances at Union Lake.
It was at those dances and from working in the county office that she met her husband Roger Conrad. They were married in Faribault on May 7, 1947. They enjoyed married life for 48 years until his passing in 1995. For the first 10 years they rented several farms in the area and then purchased a farm in the Dundas area in 1957. Helen and Roger were blessed with three children, Dianne, Joe and Larry.
Helen was a 4-H leader for the Big Star Club for over 25 years, being the key leader for most of those years. She was active in the Community Club, Rice County Farm Bureau, and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed playing cards and games and was always trying to pull you into a game of Euchre. She spent many hours playing games and puzzles with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen and Roger spent many years enjoying their love of square dancing. They belonged to a traveling club that took them to various conventions in different states. Sometimes they even danced all night at the “night-owl” dances.
She was the “Avon Lady” for almost 50 years; traveling to many people’s homes and having many people stop at hers to pick up their supplies. Her children were often referred to as the Avon Lady’s kids.
Helen Conrad is survived by daughter Dianne (DuWayne) Hohrman of Northfield; sons Joseph (Kathy) Conrad of Faribault, Larry (Dawn) Conrad of Dundas; sister Phyllis (Loren) Ballstadt of Owatonna; sister-in-law Delores Heine of Duluth; grandchildren Mike Hohrman, Colleen (Chad) Almen, Allen (Kristina) Hohrman, Christina Hohrman (wife of the late Brad Hohrman), Andy (Ellie) Conrad, Carrie Conrad, Adam Conrad and fiancée Alyssa Tangen, Angela Conrad, Ashley Conrad; great grandchildren Chaley, Michelle, Gretchen, and Abigail Hohrman, Kayla Ballstadt, Ashley Almen, Aynsley, Chevelle, Cody, Levi, Olivia, and Mackenzie Hohrman, Hunter and Aiden Conrad.
