Derek Lee Rick Gilmer

   

Derek Lee “Rick” Gilmer, age 46, of Castle Rock, died on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis following a serious cardiac arrest on Saturday at the Gilmer family cabin on Knife Lake. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Crossroads Church, 17671 Glacier Way, Lakeville, MN. Interment will take place at the Greenvale Cemetery in Castle Rock. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26th from 4 to 7 pm at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield and on Friday one hour prior to the Service at the church.

Derek Lee “Rick” Gilmer was born July 6, 1964 in Browerville, MN, son of Darrel and Janet (Leiviska) Gilmer. When he was two the family moved to Castle Rock, MN and he attended elementary school in Northfield and graduated from Northfield High School in 1982. He then began working for his father’s business, Gilmer Excavating in Castle Rock. In the early 1990’s he began his own business called Gilmer Landscape Maintenance. For the last 8 years he has been working at Poly-Tex in Castle Rock as well as working part time for his Dad and also reestablished Gilmer Landscape Maintenance along with his son Adam.

Rick was an avid bass fisherman spending as much time as he could at the family cabin on Knife Lake near Mora and in the fall liked to deer hunt in the Castle Rock area. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his granddaughters, and enjoyed working out. He listened to rock and country western music and was known to sing along with his favorite songs and was a faithful member of Crossroads Church.

Rick is survived by his four children, Aaron (Sonja) Gilmer, Adam (Lorri Brunette) Gilmer, Andrew Gilmer and Katie Gilmer all of Castle Rock; his parents, Darrel and Jan Gilmer of Castle Rock; one sister, Julie (Rick) Richman of Castle Rock; 2 grandchildren, Kayla and Audri; and a grandson Aidan due in November.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield.
