Charles Anderson, age 91, of Northfield, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Northfield Retirement Center.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 20th. at the Chapel of the Northfield Retirement Community with burial at the Northfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the Chapel.
Charles Benson Anderson, son of Gunder and Ina (Benson) Anderson, was born September 22, 1921, in Appleton, Minnesota, the fifth of eight children. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Appleton High School. In 1942 he entered the Navy and served in WWII in the South Pacific.
In 1946 Charles married Lillian Rice and moved to Northfield, Minnesota. He worked as a machinist at the Northfield Foundry and Sheldahl and then became a mail carrier, retiring after more than thirty years with the Postal Service.
Charles is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Lillian; daughter Sonja Anderson of Northfield; daughter Karen Gustafsson and husband Kjell of Mansfield, Texas; son Karl Anderson and wife Julia of San Luis Obispo, California; daughter-in-law Beth Anderson of Minneapolis; 6 grandchildren, Amy Anderson, Jesse Anderson, Lucas Anderson, Gabriel Anderson, Elliot Anderson and Hugo Anderson; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Fran Torstenson and Ione O’Conners of Minneapolis, Barb (Bill) Andreasen of Victorville, California, and Margaret (Roger) Gronholz of Appleton, Minnesota; and sister-in-law Ruth Anderson of Appleton, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Evelyn Larson, brothers Phil and Doug; and son Stephan.
Charles enjoyed many activities. He was a member of the Male Chorus, the Troubadours, VFW, Lions Club and the Auxiliary Police.
Chuck was a kind, honest and generous man, and we will miss him dearly. We celebrate his life with gladness, not sadness.
Funeral arrangements are by the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield.
