Daily App Review – Police Scanner Radio App is a live audio stream of actual police activity

Fri, 03/13/2015 - 8:08am

When I first install this app, I thought it was too good to be true. In my town, when I hear sirens, I can turn on this app and hear what the emergency is all about from anywhere. Call that creepy, but its for real. In fact, I am one of the providers of a Minnesota counties live stream. It wasn’t cheap to set up which made me realize there is a couple million dollars in hardware running around the clock to produce content for this great app.

Daily App Review – ionroad App Watches the Road for You, Warns of Collision

Wed, 03/11/2015 - 7:54am

Here’s an app that is crossing new lines using augmented reality in real time with the road your driving on. The app watches the car in front of you and gives an estimated buffer time in seconds and warns if you’re too close to the vehicle in front of you. I was especially amused at its ability to watch for speed limit signs and post that sign reminder on my screen.

App Publisher Description:  iOnRoad improves driving in real time using the power of advanced smartphones. The app uses the smartphone’s native camera, GPS and sensors to detect vehicles in front of the host vehicle, alerting drivers when they are in danger. Our Visual Radar maps objects in front of the driver in real-time, calculating the driver’s current speed using native sensors. As the vehicle approaches danger, an audio-visual warning pops up to alert of a possible collision, allowing the driver to brake in time.
